Terms of Service

By using the SUMMARU app or website, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

SUMMARU is a mindfulness and meditation app offering breathing exercises, ambient sounds, singing bowl tones, guided timer sessions, and an AI companion called Maru. The app is intended for personal wellness and relaxation purposes only.

SUMMARU is not a medical device or healthcare service. Nothing in the app constitutes medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. If you have a medical or mental health condition, please consult a qualified professional. Do not use SUMMARU as a substitute for professional care.

Maru is an AI companion powered by Anthropic's Claude model. Maru's responses are generated by AI and may not always be accurate, appropriate, or complete. Do not rely on Maru for medical, legal, financial, or emergency advice. In case of emergency, contact the relevant emergency services in your area.

Maru is an AI, not a human. Content Maru creates — its replies and the visualization images — is generated by AI, and images are labelled as AI-generated in the app. How Maru responds when someone mentions suicide or self-harm is described on our Safety & Crisis Support page.

You must be at least 14 years old to use SUMMARU. If the law where you live sets a higher age for agreeing to these terms, you must be that age or have permission from a parent or guardian. SUMMARU is not designed for children.

Sounds, breathing, and the daily scroll work without an account. Talking with Maru requires signing in, so that your conversations and what Maru remembers stay with you when you change devices.

You sign in with Google, Apple, or a link sent to your email, so the security of your account depends on the security of that account or inbox. Keep it protected. You are responsible for activity that happens through your account.

You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete account. This permanently removes your data, as described in our Privacy Policy. We may suspend or remove an account that is used to abuse the service.

• You may use SUMMARU for personal, non-commercial purposes.
• You may not attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or abuse the service.
• You may not use the service in any way that violates applicable laws.
• When you add a photo to a gift card someone made for you, it must be a photo of yourself. Adding someone else's photo without their permission is not allowed, and the responsibility for it lies with the person who added it. Any card can be taken down from its page.

SUMMARU is free to use, with optional paid plans (Premium and Premium+) that add more conversation with Maru, longer memory, more visualizations, and access to past months. What each plan includes and its price are shown in the app before you subscribe.

• Billing. Paid plans are purchased through Google Play or the App Store and billed to your store account. They renew automatically at the end of each period until you cancel.
• Free trial. A plan may start with a free trial (for example, 7 days). If you cancel before the trial ends, you will not be charged. Each account can use a trial once.
• Cancelling. Cancel any time in your Google Play or App Store subscription settings. Deleting the app or your account does not cancel a subscription. After you cancel, your plan stays active until the end of the period you already paid for.
• Refunds. Payments are handled by Google or Apple, so refunds follow their refund policies. You can request one through the store where you subscribed.
• Price changes. If we change the price of a plan, we will tell you at least 30 days before it applies to you, and the store will ask for your consent where the law requires it.
• If your plan ends. Nothing you created is deleted. Your conversations, scrolls and visualizations stay in your account. If Maru has more notes about you than the free plan holds, the older ones are kept but set aside, and Maru uses only the most recent ones. Subscribe again and Maru picks them all back up.

We strive to keep SUMMARU available at all times, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the service at any time without prior notice.

All content in SUMMARU — including sounds, music, visual design, and the Maru character — is the property of SUMMARU and may not be reproduced or distributed without permission.

SUMMARU is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the service will be error-free or that any defects will be corrected.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, SUMMARU shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service.

We may update these terms from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance.
